Why I build data warehouses

Putting the obvious reasons aside, the aspect that I get most pleasure from is seeing the initial relief and ongoing happiness in the people who can now answer, quicker and more consistently, the many questions they are asked.

I rarely get to know the details but can be quite sure that this information helps make better business decisions which helps drive an increase in the bottom line.

Everyone has data and it’s normally all over the place leading to slow, inconsistent and sometimes untrustworthy answers.  I’m not suggesting it’s always simple to create a data warehouse but I’m confident that any upfront cost and effort would reap returns in multiples to the initial outlay mainly due to the time saved in sourcing, the boost in confidence of the answer and the increase in insight it provides.
